Retinol
What is it?
Retinol, a form of vitamin A, is widely regarded as a gold-standard skincare ingredient. Though synthetically produced for stability and efficacy, it mimics the natural vitamin A found in foods like carrots, sweet potatoes, and eggs. As part of the retinoid family, retinol is known for its ability to transform skin texture, tone, and overall appearance.
What does it do?
IIn dermatology, retinol is used to treat concerns like fine lines, acne, and hyperpigmentation. It boosts collagen, speeds up cell turnover, and clears pores. Commonly found in creams and serums, it’s best applied at night, as it breaks down in sunlight.
Retinol smooths texture, fades dark spots, and reduces wrinkles over time. It’s also effective for acne. Some dryness or irritation can occur early on, but starting with a low dose and slowly increasing helps the skin adjust.
