Mineral SPF
What is it?
Mineral SPF contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide that physically block UVA and UVB rays. It provides instant protection and is suitable for sensitive or reactive skin. Less irritating than chemical sunscreens, though some versions may leave a white cast.
How does it work?
Mineral SPF is ideal for sensitive or acne-prone skin, as it’s less likely to cause irritation. It’s also a go-to for children and those with rosacea. Since it starts protecting immediately and offers broad-spectrum coverage, it’s highly effective. Environmentally, mineral sunscreens are often reef-safe, avoiding harmful ingredients that damage coral reefs. A drawback is the white cast some formulas leave, especially on darker skin, though newer tinted and sheer options aim to improve this.
