Pre-procedure
Medications to Stop

Stop the following medications and supplements at least two weeks before your surgery date. Do not restart them until six weeks post-surgery where stated.

  • Aspirin and all blood-thinning medications
  • Ibuprofen, Brufen, Voltarol and all ad hoc painkillers ending in the letter N (avoid for at least three weeks prior)
  • Vitamin A
  • St. John's Wort
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Grape Seed Extract
  • Fever Few and Beta Carotene
  • Recreational drugs
  • Smoking — cease at least two weeks before surgery and do not resume for a minimum of 15 days after

If you take regular prescribed medication, please inform Dr. Zamani and include all details on your pre-operative medical questionnaire. Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor first.

Supplements to Start

Begin the following supplements 72 hours before surgery to support healing, reduce bruising and minimise inflammation.  These are OPTIONAL supplements should you wish to take them

Bromelain

500mg once daily

A natural enzyme from pineapple that reduces inflammation, bruising and speeds healing. Continue for four weeks post-surgery.

Vitamin C

1000mg twice daily

Essential for wound healing. Supports collagen production and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Continue daily after surgery for four weeks.

Zinc

30mg twice daily

Stimulates wound healing and supports healthy skin. Best absorbed as zinc chelate, picolinate or aspartate. Continue for four weeks post-surgery.

Vitamin E

400 iu daily (post-surgery only)

Begin after surgery, not before. A potent antioxidant that accelerates wound healing. Do not exceed 600 iu.

Lifestyle Preparation
  • Stop smoking completely and do not resume for a minimum of 15 days after surgery
  • If you are taking any weight loss medications, please inform Dr. Zamani
  • Moderate your alcohol intake in the weeks leading up to surgery
  • Maintain a healthy diet and stay well hydrated
  • Inform Dr. Zamani of all medications two to three weeks before your surgery date
  • Arrange a lymphatic drainage massage for 1 week after surgery (once a week thereafter)
Consents and Paperwork

You will receive links by email to your pre-operative consent form and surgical terms and conditions. Please ensure these are completed before your surgery day.

You will also be booked for a 15-minute pre-operative assessment, ideally at least one week before surgery if needed.   At this appointment your blood pressure, height and weight will be taken for Dr. Zamani and the anaesthetist to review.

Practical Arrangements
  • Arrange a responsible adult chaperone to collect you and stay with you for the first 24 hours after surgery
  • Confirm travel arrangements — you cannot drive yourself home
  • Attend your pre-operative assessment if not yet completed
  • Complete your consent forms and surgical terms if not already done
  • Refrain from applying fake tan for at least seven days before your operation
Final Medication Check

Stop all non-essential, non-prescribed medication in the days leading up to your procedure — this includes vitamins, paracetamol and any over-the-counter supplements not already discussed.

If you take regular prescribed medication, please inform Dr. Zamani and include all details on your pre-operative medical questionnaire. Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking to your doctor first.

Skincare
  • Do not apply anything topically to your skin after showering the evening before surgery
  • Do not apply moisturiser for 24 hours prior to your operation
  • Shower either the evening before or the morning of your operation
Alcohol

Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours before surgery. Alcohol thins the blood and can significantly increase the risk of complications and bruising

Preparation
  • Try to sleep well the night before surgery
  • Keep well hydrated throughout the day
  • Prepare your bag — loose fitting clothes, hair tie if needed
  • Remove false eyelashes, and piercings
Fasting Guidelines

For general anaesthesia, strict fasting is required.

  • Stop all food and all liquids (except water) six hours before your procedure
  • Stop water two hours before your procedure
  • It is essential that your stomach is completely empty for general anaesthesia or sedation

Regular medication: If you need to take regular medication on the morning of your procedure, inform Dr. Zamani and your anaesthetist in advance. You may take it two hours before with a small sip of water.

For local anaesthesia: eat a light meal before your procedure and stay well hydrated.

What to Bring and Wear
  • Wear loose fitting clothes so you can change easily before and after the procedure
  • Tie your hair up if it is long
  • Do not wear eye make up on the day of surgery
  • Remove all false eyelashes, piercings, nail varnish and acrylic nails
  • Bring only the essentials — storage space is limited to a small locker beside your bed
  • Confirm your chaperone is available to collect you and stay for 24 hours
What to Expect at the Clinic
  • Check in at main reception on arrival — the theatre nursing team will be expecting you
  • Arrive one hour before your scheduled surgery time
  • A nurse will escort you to your pre-operative room to confirm details and conduct pre-operative tests
  • Your anaesthetist will visit you, followed by Dr. Zamani who will walk through the procedure and be present as you sign consent forms
